International Call for Electroacoustic Works

MAAR – Margens Ressonantes is a showcase dedicated to experimental music, acousmatic music, and the poetics of sound, held in Aracaju, capital of the state of Sergipe, in Northeast Brazil. In its inaugural edition, the showcase establishes itself as an unprecedented initiative in the region, proposing a space for listening, diffusion, and reflection on electroacoustic music, acousmatic music, and contemporary sound art.

The showcase is born with the aim of connecting local production to the international sound art circuit, fostering artistic exchange, education, and immersive listening experiences in multichannel diffusion systems.

The Poetics of the Threshold and the Listening of Fragility

The 2026 edition of MAAR invites composers and sound artists to explore the theme “The Poetics of the Threshold and the Listening of Fragility.”

Aracaju is not merely a geographic city — it is an essay on the threshold. Situated in a region rich in mangroves, the city grows in the friction between the advance of asphalt and the persistence of mud. Surrounded by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the mouth of the Sergipe River to the north, and the mouth of the Vaza Barris River to the south, it embodies the space where land and water negotiate a mutual existence. What is particular to this city finds resonance in other experiences around the world.

We move toward these similarities from the premise that we live in a time of exhausted thresholds. Our climatic, social, technological, and political borders have become fragile membranes — fracture lines that reveal the world’s vulnerability, but also its potential for reconstruction and invention.

To inhabit these unstable zones demands a new acousmatology: a mode of listening that does not seek the safety of solid ground, but learns to navigate the fluidity of the in-between, of interzones. For this curatorial vision, fragility is not read as weakness, but as the radical force of (re)inventing spaces of resonance amid crisis. It is in the fissures — in the wearing down of matter, in the silence that precedes the storm, in the absence that resonates — that we find our most vital creative forces.

Inspired by the organization of the commons among the Kīsêdjê people, we understand that sonic performance is the rite that keeps thresholds open. Sound is the political tool that redefines the “distribution of the sensible,” allowing non-human voices and marginalized noises to occupy the center of listening.

This open call is an invitation for you to share your sensibility with this inaugural edition of MAAR – Margens Ressonantes.
